You Are There – Virginia Ratifies The Constitution, 1788AD.

America is having birth pains as the delegates come together to sign the Constitution. Even after the end of the Revolutionary War, there are still states who are undecided about the new document. CBS reporters take you there to witness the excitement, confusion, and the political climate of the time.

Who is holding back on forming the new government? Legislators air their ill feelings towards each other, and bring some valid objections to the Constitution, and some that are petty. Instead of facing a struggle against the Brittish, the politicians see this as a clash between the rich and the poor, upper classes and lower classes. Who stands to benefit the most? Can a middle ground be reached? Will the Constitution give too much power to an oppressive government, or will the States have the surpreme power?

As CBS reporters try to expose the hot button topics, the politicians all bicker, and find fault with every aspect with the task at hand, and with each other. Imagine that politicians fighting. I guess some things just never change. It’s amazing that our Constitution was ever signed at all. But I’m glad they did.

PS: Now we just need to get our politicians to actually obey it, and quit trying to get rid of it.
