You Are There – Battle Of Plassy, 1757AD.

East is about to meet West in a great clash of empires. Brittish troops are nearing Calcutta India. CBS reporters get the story from Brittish troops about their retreat from their positions. Is there a traitor who would leave the Brittish hanging? Politicians are interviewed about the reversal of their war policy.

The Nabobs are showing no resistance, and seem unenthusiastic to fight. With the overwhelming numbers, 50,000 to 3,000, they don’t need to put forth a lot of effort. Despite the high odds, Brittish troops aren’t worried as they turn to the business of defending their settlement. Clive, the Brittish leader, is held in highest confidence, since he has faced similar situations and come out on top.

Elephants are used by the enemy, and the fighting breaks out as the animals begin to charge. CBS reporters describe the battlefield scenes. Listen in to the blow by blow, and see who will finish the day victorious.

Note: The series at large doesn’t mention all the political climate during the mid to late 1770’s for the Brittish. They had holdings that went around the world, inspiring the claim that the sun never set on the Brittish Empire. Their claim to land spanned the globe. Of course, it also meant that sometimes they had to deal with uprisings. Today we learn of a problem in India, but at about this same time there was a matter to deal with with the French in the American colonies. Later wars would arise with the nation of France, and that little rebellion in the colonies where those darned Yankees kept doing crazy things like tossing tea into Boston Harbor. What ever beame of that anyway? I’ll bet if we stay tuned to the show we’ll find out.
