Charlie Chan – The Telltale Hands.

Judy is a 19year old blind girl who is helped out by Charlie Chan’s #1 son. We learn that she is inadvertently providing information to a gang of robbers… Headed up by her own dad.

As Charlie Chan closes in on his robbers, it becomes a case of murder. He also discovers the connection that links Judy to the crimes. Is Judy in danger?

What trail has Judy’s father left behind as he fled the city? The clues seem flimsy, but it’s all Charlie needs to track down his man. As the suspect is being tracked, does he suspect that he’s being suspected? After a confrontation, Charlie shares his secret with #1 son what the subtle clues in this case mean, and how they helped find their man. Charlie even has good news for Judy, and that her blindness may one day be cured.

Note: Blind people don’t make road crossings as depicted in the opening scene. And if you couldn’t see, would you hop into a car with a total stranger? I think not. Judy is a piano tuner, a job that blind people are trained to do, even today. Today blind people can do almost every job out there. Although I would draw the line at occupations involving hand to eye cooridnation like airplane pilot, or bus driver, technology is slowly overcoming that barrier. Blind people can be cashiers, business managers, factory workers, teachers, accountants, and maybe even geeky people who like to build web sites and podcast about old time radio. What do you think? Nah.. never happen (wink, wink).

Is there really a cure for blindness? Maybe sooner than you think, although probably not soon enough for Judy and other blind people in the era of old time radio.
