Wartime can bring out the best in people, or the worst. The clock is rolled back to wartime England where this crime took place. A couple of men on the run from Poland have no identity or ration books. They are part of an underground world of the black market that survive by the point of a gun. Their path is about to cross that of Scotland Yard when a body of a taxi driver puts them on the case to solve the murder.

It’s hard enough to keep tabs on the usual run of underworld criminals, but when unidentified newcomers come on the scene, it only serves to make things worse for the cops. To crack this case in the black market, it takes a special break for Scotland Yard, and it comes when another murder is reported.

When a well-placed gangster in the underworld is murdered, clues lead the cops to look fora foreign criminal. Scotland Yard scrambles to learn what kind of falling out took place. Who had a gripe with the gangster?

The manhunt takes a trail through the bars and pubs of the darker side of the streets as the shady characters parade past. In the gritty setting of the streets, it’s all about diligent footwork on the part of the cops to get their man.
