Columbia Workshop- Wilbur The Psycho Neurotic Car. (retro328).

From an unknown date, probably in the 1950’s, comes an oddball comedy about an automobile with a mental condition. A barnyard is the scene where a junker of a jalopy is dumped off. The barnyard animals all voice their opinions of the intrusion. Wilbur, the old clunker also has a few words to say about his condition, and is more than just a little defensive and self conscious over his situation.

The barnyard animals just don’t understand the needs and sinsitivities of a modern, complex piece of machinery that makes up a car. The lack of proper attention seems to be driving Wilbur into a state of being psycho neurotic. He’s jumpy and irritable. What can be done to settle his nerves? Clarence the duck knows, but will anybody listen to him?

The well meaning barn animals try to cheer up Wilbur, but he just isn’t fitting in with the crowd. His nerves hit an all time low when he knows that the wreckers are coming for him, which doesn’t help with his feelings of uselessness. By now, the animals are distraught as they sit helpless and watch the wreckers take Wilbur apart until all that’s left is his naked chassis.

We all have to go sometime, but does the story end so abruptly as this? The farmer replaces Wilbur with a fast talking race horse who loves to brag. Over time the life of the party, Cannonball, begins to fit in with the other barnyard critters. Then tragedy strikes.

There’s afire, and the animals are faced with their own doom. Suddenly they are saved and an unexpected reunion takes place with Wilbur. How did he manage to make the comeback? He tells all, and how he has found the perfect job to satisfy his need for attention and pampering.
