Jack Benny – Cast Introduced. 490529.

It’s the end of the 1949 season, and as a bookend for the year, Jack takes time to give credit and honors to all of his cast members and writers.

Jack gives Don a hard time about being fired. Phil gets teased about his drinking and his band. When Mary joins the fun, vacation plans are the topic. The Sportsmen are joined by Margret Whiting to sing, Baby It’s Cold Outside.

Maylin Merit is introduced as the band’s aranger, and the one responsible for the creative musical commercials. Mr Kitzel, also known as Artie Auerbach, spends a few moments joking with Jack. Joe Kearn is Jack’s vault guard. Sidney Sheldon diverts Jack’s next introduction when he pops in as the racetrack tout. Frank Nelsonb is antagonistic as ever when Jack has him say a few lines.

The writers all have a say as the topic of vacations is continued. Even the script girl gets a moment of glory. Dennis sings his latest hit, Three Wishes.

The phone operators, Gertrude and Mable, Bea Benaderet and Sara Burn, are next up to talk about Jack. Mel Blanc gets to showcase some of the voices he does on the show. Rochester phones in to wrap up the show.

Jack is even honored by being presented with an award. Finally in closing, Jack goes as far as giving credit to his production and engineering crew members by name.

PS: His sound man really is named Gene Wommbley,as mentioned in the previous week’s show, of course the voice was provided by Mel Blanc.
