A rancher watches as his cowboys round up the herd. Barring any hard luck, the cattle drive is set to move out in the morning. The camp cook gets injured, and though he may be able to ride in a sick wagon, he may not be able to handle the cooking chores.
Speaking of food, it’s time to go out and grab a fresh supply of that yummie tasty treat with the sweetening already on them. Eat them in a bowl with milk, or just dig into that sugary goodness, right out of the box. Gotta love those Pops.
In search of a new cook, the rancher’s man finds the chubby Jingles at the blacksmith shop. Will he be able to rope Jingles into the trail job? Of course Jingles can cook, but can he be spared by Wild Bill to handle the job?
Just then a man rides up to claim the price on cattle is down, and tries to cheat the rancher out of his cows. Wild Bill is not only suspicious of the stranger, but knocks him down by getting into a fistfight with him. Is there anything to worry about? As Bill and Jingles ride, they spot trouble on the ranch. A report of a robbery of a stage coach reaches Bill’s ears. No gold was stolen, just a passenger who was important for the rancher.
It looks like the rash of bad luck has tempted Bill, and he decides to have Jingles be the camp cook as he rides along for protection. Bill has noticed a couple riders following the herd, and the drive is approaching a good place for an ambush. Sure enough, the cattle are spooked at the critical spot. With Bill’s expert cowboy skills, he rides like crazy to help keep things together. Then with the rancher, he rides out to investigate another problem.
An inspector claims the herd is diseased, and needs to be quarantined. The fake inspector is confronted, but before he can talk, more hard luck breaks out in the form of distant rifle shots. Can Bill prevent the herd from stampeding? He has a plan, but it’ll have to wait while I refill my supply of that sugary, tasty, crunchy treat that’s jam packed with vitamins and minerals. Don’t ya know? Kids love pops, moms love pops, and pops love pops. Are we all tweaking with a sugar rush yet? Good.
As Jingles and the rancher try to catch up, they marvel at the way Bill stopped the herd. Now it’s time to get that snake who started this stampede. Bill and Jingles ride hard on their trail. The inevitable gunfight breaks out, and the bad guys are taken alive for a date with the sheriff.
Besides the mystery of the hard luck, the trouble with the stage coach kidnapping is told as well, and how it all ties in together.
