Headed toward the town of Pleasantville. Bill and Jingles take time to jump into the creek for a swim. The plan is to just check on messages from Abilene. There’s nothing in the telegraph ofice, so Jingles and Bill hit the town, looking for something to do. Jingles encounters a Magician, but is saved from being sawn in half when a telegram comes in. The new mission is to catch a confidence man.
Jingles discovers he is missing his watch, and in looking for it, Bill sticks up for him in a fight. Elsewhere a trusting woman in town shares the safekeeping of her life savings with a man she thinks she can trust, the magician from the show earlier. I don’t know, he seems awfully creepy to me, and he’s too eager to get his hands on her money.
On the way to deposit the money for her, the magician is robbed by a highwayman, and when a gunshot is heard, Bill and Jingles come on the run. Though the magician tells how he was robbed, Bill seems to have some doubts.
Bill still goes racing cross country after the bandit. At the same time, Jingles goes to get the widow who trusted the magician with her money. Arrangements are made for Jingles, the widow, and the magician all to meet at the telegraph office, and they wait for Bill to return.
When Bill enters with the bandit, he blows the lid off the scam. The widow has her money back, but there’s a definite lesson to be learned about who you can trust.
