Phil Harris – Truman’s Inaugural. ep87, 490123

Part 2? What happened to Part 1? This sequel to last week’s show, Broken Hearted Phil, is sometimes titled, Trumans Inaugural Part 1. Don’t worry, you didn’t miss anything. At the end of last week’s show, Phil and the cast were invited to Washington DC. The harris family had attended the presidential inauguration the previous Thursday, so the show goes into flashback to relive their moments.

Phil talks to the girls, and Alice about the monuments they have seen. Alice tells secrets on Phils conduct at the speech. Willie shows up to gloat over his success at getting tickets to the ball later that night. Phil has tickets, and gets ready, but will Frankie be jealous of him? Nah!

Frankie is heartbroken, and was really excited about going to the big party. Maybe Alice can cheer him up? I don’t think so. Now its Phil’s turn to be upset when Frankie sabotages his tux. To cheer himself up Phil sings, The Preacher and the Bear.

Frankie helps out by pressing and starching Phils suit. It looks like all hopes of saving the tux are out the window. Phil decides to do some sabotaging of his own and wants to steal Willie’s suit.

Suddenly, Fred Allen appears to cut up with Phil. They talk about the current events, and of course about Jack Benny.

Still without a suit, Alice stops him for an opinion on her song that she may sing later. Alice sings, If this Isn’t Love.

Though Willies suit won’t fit, Phil swipes it anyway, then he and Frankie run in to Julius. Frankie makes plans to crash the party, and since Julius seems to be conveniently dressed in a tux, they roll him for it. With overcoats on, nobody notices the tight suits, but Alice thinks they’re acting awfully strange. Of course the inevitable scene with a split trouser seam just can’t be avoided.
