Down in Pine Ridge Lum has been struggling over the issue of a fire ordinance that threatens to put Squire Skimp out of business. Lum gets on the party line to make some announcements about his Planetarium picture show. With Squire out of business, he promises to keep the movies fresh, and promises a lower price for admission.
Lum is still regretful over having to close Squire down, and is hesitant at facing the case when it comes across his desk as Justice of the Peace tomorrow. He and Abner talk about how upset Squire is over the whole trouble. Abner gets himself confused when he uses a figure of speech on himself.
Cedric pops in to get his old job back, but his old job running the movie projector is already filled. Cedric talks about how mad Squire still is over his embarrassing arrest. Uh-oh. Look out. Here comes Squire now.
Just as Lum feared, Squire sees his arrest as an attempt to use the law as a tool for revenge. Squire warns that he’ll not take this laying down.
