Previously, Lum and Abner have learned that chain letters are illegal, but it may be harder to stop one than to start one.

Today Lum is on the phone to talk to those on his chain letter to personally ask them to stop sending hogs, and come take their hogs back. As Lum worries over it, Abner cracks jokes.

Lum invents the idea of an unchain letter. A concept is to send a letter to ask those who gave a hog, to come and get it. They figure if they never achieved their promised amount of hogs, they won’t get into trouble. Another idea is to turn the hogs loose, and let them find their way home.

Suddenly, the phone rings and the express company announces they have a shipment of hogs from out of town. There goes that idea of letting them loose to find their way home. I wonder how it’s going to work on the shipping charges for those out of town hogs?

It’s all and good, but what about that corn chain letter they sent out to get feed for the hogs?
