Jack is home taking a bath, so Don cuts to Mary’s house as she talks to her maid Pauline about her date with Jack. A phone call comes in from Barbara Stanwick. Barbara gets the chance to plug her new film, Sorry Wrong Number, then chats with Mary about Jack.
Cut to Jack’s house. He and Rochester talk, and he is revisited by the mysterious echo that keeps plaguing Jack from previous episodes. Dennis pops in to talk about TV, life at home, and is invited to go to the movies with Jack. Hmm… that pesky echo just keeps popping in at wierd places.
Jack and the gang are at the movie house, and as Barbara recreates scenes from her film, Jack and his crew make wisecracks. Even the echo gets in on the act.
Later at home, Jack wants to make a phone call, but is connected to a wrong number. He overhears his sponsor talking about him. Such suspense, such anxiety. Does Jack have anything to worry about? ,
Note: As I understand it, the story of Sorry Wrong Number made it’s first appearance on Suspense, very early in the 1940’s. It featured Agnes Moorehead in the starring role. It was so popular that it was reproduced several times in the run of Suspense, then of course into the hit film in 1948. And now here it is, making fame in comedy. The film was also remade into a TV movie in the 1970’s.
