After spending the Summer making appearances throughout Europe, Jack is returning. England, France, and other countries. Now join the gang in flashback on the Queen Mary as they cruise home.
Jack walks the deck and chats with Mary. They talk about Mary’s sister Babe, what the first show of the season will be, and a little about the cast members. Dennis sings, Tree in the Meadow.
Jack and Mary continue walking the deck and meet a little girl named Betty, apparently a card playing friend of Jack’s. Phil Harris is trying to learn a little French out of a phrase book. He does some bragging on how the English audience loved him. Jack talks to himself about the stops on their tour as the Sportsmen sing a yodeling Swiss number for the commercial that features an echo.
Now back on land, the gang takes the train and meet up with Don Wilson. Mel Blanc, as train announcer manages to give confusing, and funny directions. Jack hears an echo that nobody else can hear. Next, the gang meet Dennis at the station. Finally back at home, Rochester greets Jack, and they get caught up. The echo is back, but only Jack can hear it.
That pesky old echo! Watch for it to be a running gag for several shows to come. Not to mention that in the show, they mention Phil’s English sportscar he bought and had shipped. You’ll hear it mentioned in Phil’s show that also plays today.
