Jack Benny – I Got AHeavy Date. 360419

Jack comes out with compliments on Johnny Greens performance. Then a telegram arrives for Jack from a fan. The mother wants to learn more about Jack’s life, so it will be a role model to her son. Kenny Baker sings, Maria My Own.

The play begins with Jack meeting Mary. They inspire each other and get lifted out of their former dispair. Time marches on in fast forward until the day that Jack became a success and proposed marriage to Mary. The audio cuts out at that point, but it’s pretty much the end of the show.

Despite being heavily snipped in the recording, the play is a very cute story of Jack and Mary’s courtship. Sort of truthful, sort of not. The regular season shows are kicking in, so my Summer substitutes from 1936 will end with this program.
