Amos and Andy – Double Feature – New Years Eve 431231 (Retro Plus)Another double feature to showcase an episode from the earliest days of Amos and Andy, and one from later in the series.
First Show: At the Bullfights, 11-22-29. Amos tells Andy about more of his life down on the farm in Georgia. Particularly his exploits as a bullfighter. He tries to explain the event, but Andy gives him a hard time as he tries to understand the finer points.
Secong Show: New Years Eve, 12-31-1943. Guest, Edward G. Robinson. Andy hopes to go on a date, but he needs to find a tuxedo for the formal party. Kingfish has an idea to save the day.. Hmm… my Spidey senses are tingling. Run, Andy run!
Andy trusts Kingfish to come through on a tux, as he chats with Lightning. Andy manages to rent a tux by the hour, and for exactly the amount of cash he has on hand. Imagine that?
Well, instead of imagining, Andy takes a nap. While sleeping he encounters a tough guy played by Edward G robinson. He’s an escaped prisoner named 1943. The old year is desperate to tell about all the hard times that took place that year. But it wouldn’t be a year end, reflection show if Amos didn’t make an appearance to tell about some of the good that happened.
The baby New Year comes on the heals of tragedy, and the promise of hope. Of course Andy wakes from his dream with a good outlook on a perfect 44. Followed by some personal notes from Gosden and Corell.
Side Note: For me the year 1943 had an added positive note. My mom was porn just a couple weeks before this show aired.
