Since Christmas, one running gag of the show has been about a gold watch that Phil bought for Jack. Jack has now lost it and is nervous about how to tell Phil the news. Mary reads her want ad she placed in the paper for the watch. Jack talks about Mary’s new movie where she appears on her own, without Jack. It’s her first film appearance. Kenny arrives to join in with the conversation. The band plays, without Phil.
Talk turns to worms? A phone call comes in that has Jack worried, but it’s for Don. Then a telegram from Jack’s father. A messenger, Eddie Anderson, but not Rochester yet, gets a reward from Jack when he returns the watch. Kenny sings, Blue is the Night.
When Phil finally arrives, Jack is surprised and relieved that Phil isn’t mad. Jack introduces the continued play then Phil plays, Dardenella. The mystery picks up where it left off, with a body and Mary, the suspect who claims she didn’t do it. At a stand still in the investigation, Inspector O’Benny decides to reenact the crime. At the crucial moment, a knock comes at the door. It’s a creditor to collect Jack’s watch for lack of payment. Now it’s Phil’s turn to duck out.
PS: Yeah, I know I’ve probably given away the show, but there are plenty of great laughs in the telling of the show, so don’t miss out. Listen and enjoy.
